Alignment
The Sepulveda Transit Corridor would add a fully underground, automated heavy-rail line running approximately 13 miles from the Van Nuys Metrolink Station in the San Fernando Valley, beneath the Sepulveda Pass, to the E (Expo) Line at Sepulveda on LA’s Westside, with seven stations connecting to the G Line busway on Van Nuys Boulevard and serving UCLA and Westwood. Tunnels would reach depths of 500 feet or more in places to pass beneath the Santa Monica Mountains.
In January 2026, the Metro Board selected “Modified Alternative 5” — a fully tunneled heavy-rail alignment — as the project’s Locally Preferred Alternative, with a total cost estimate of $20–24.2 billion including FTA contingency. An initial operating segment linking the G Line to the D Line is targeted for 2033–2035.
