Alignment

The Tacoma Dome Link Extension would extend Link light rail approximately 8.5 miles south from the Federal Way terminus to Tacoma, mostly on elevated guideway, with new stations at South Federal Way, Fife, East Tacoma/Portland Avenue, and Tacoma Dome, where it would connect to Tacoma’s T Line and Sounder commuter rail. The Sound Transit Board selected its preferred alternative in June 2025, and the agency is now conducting design and fieldwork ahead of a Final EIS expected in 2027.

A May 2026 Board resolution addressing a $34.5 billion systemwide funding gap kept the extension’s overall schedule and 2035 opening target intact, though it deferred planned park-and-ride garages at the South Federal Way and Fife stations.

2026-05 — Funding resolution preserves schedule, defers garages

The Sound Transit Board’s realignment resolution (R2026-11) kept TDLE on schedule while deferring two station parking garages amid a systemwide funding shortfall.

2025-06 — Board selects preferred alternative

The Sound Transit Board identified its preferred alignment for the extension, advancing the project toward a Final EIS.
